Lewes is the vibrant county town of East Sussex with a population of 16,000 and is situated in the recently created South Downs National Park. Lewes is also the location of several significant historic buildings, including Lewes Castle, the remains of Lewes Priory, Bull House (the former home of Tom Paine), Southover Grange and public gardens, and a sixteenth century timber-framed Wealden hall house known as Anne of Cleves House because it was given to her as part of her divorce settlement from Henry VIII, though she never lived there. Anne of Cleves and the Castle are owned and maintained by the Sussex Archaeological Society (whose headquarters are in Lewes). The Round House, a secluded former windmill in Pipe Passage, was owned by the writer Virginia Woolf. This website provides information on local events and news including website links. We are completely independent, uncensored, non-political and run by Lewesians. We run our offices in Lewes on 100% renewable energy so we enjoy a neutral carbon foot print and of course no forests get chopped down! The site can be viewed instantly in over 60 languages! You are invited to add your Lewes event or website online 24/7
